Veterans League
The Bistro team knock-out competition format of five pairs, aggregate score to determine the winner and a handicap system all contribute to the repetitive shock results that continue to crop up in each round. With three teams in the last eight all outside of the top tier still involved the giant-killing acts may still be about to repeat this Thursday.
There will certainly be at least one semi-final representative from outside of the top division as Linthwaite Hall (Division 3) and Primrose Hill Lib (Division 4) clash at Golcar Lib. Both teams have faced higher placed teams in each round to date and come out on top each time with Linthwaite including two Division 1 sides (Waterloo and Marsh United 'A') in that sequence.
Interestingly Linthwaite Hall are one of only two of the quarter-finalists to have lifted this trophy before (1985). Lockwood Con being the second previous winner in 2017 being the only time that they have claimed this trophy.
Slaithwaite may not have set Division 2 alight since their promotion last season but have consolidated their league status whilst making good progress in this team competition. They face Division 1 opponents for the first time this Thursday when the formidable Cowcliffe team line up at Holmfirth for an interesting confrontation with the underdogs having a 12-point handicap advantage.
The quarter-finals of the Bistro team knockout take place on Thursday 11 August start time of 1.30. The draw and neutral greens are:
Clayton West (scr) v. Lockwood Con. 'A' (scr) at Almondbury Bowling Club
Slaithwaite (+12) v. Cowcliffe (scr) at Holmfirth Bowling Club
Lindley Lib. 'A' (+4) v. Longwood (scr) at Netherton Con.
Linthwaite Hall (+20) v. Primrose Hill Lib (+28) at Golcar Lib.
