Veterans League
A preview of fixtures to be played in the Veterans 6-Man League on Monday 8 August
It is a big week for teams involved in the Division 1 relegation fight with two of the bottom three teams going head to head at Longwood where Lindley Lib 'A' are the visitors. It had seemed that the Lindley Lib side were drifting towards the relegation trapdoor when suddenly they realised the seriousness of their situation and responded with two big wins in their last two fixtures to close in on the teams above them.
The nearest of those is Longwood who are their hosts this Monday and are in a dismal run of results with just one win in their last 7 matches and gifting Linthwaite Hall their first win of the season last week. Locked along with Longwood on 40-points is Thongsbridge 'B' who have leaders Shepley as visitors this week and all this adds up to a probable pivotal day in the Division 1 nether regions.
Honley Con lost top spot last week and although only one point behind the leaders may struggle to change that as they have to go to Brockholes 'A' who have only lost one of their last 8 matches and that was away at leaders Shepley. That could open the door for Netherton Con to rejoin the title race as they are on a run of one defeat in their last 7 matches and this Monday have bottom of the table Linthwaite Hall as visitors.
Golcar C&BC cannot afford to lose any more ground in the table if they want to retain any interest in matters at the top of the table but will need to break Crosland Moor's unbeaten home record to stay in contention. Completing the Division 1 programme is the Milnsbridge v Lockwood Con fixture with Milnsbridge looking back at a run of four matches against teams above them which provided a single win whilst Lockwood Con have won 3 of their last 4 matches.
It is top v bottom in Division 2 with Skel Windmill 'B' desperate for points to narrow the 10-point gap to safety but have leaders Marsh United 'A' as visitors this week. Having lost the Windmill derby match 0-7 last week the Skel side will be hoping that their 'A' team can take some points off Lindley Lib 'B' to keep them within their range. The four teams in mid-table play each other which can only result in a minor reshuffle of positions.
The top two teams in Division 3 both have away games this week and it seems that Golcar Lib's 13-point lead is unlikely to be disturbed after their trip to play Holmfirth 'B'. Having only lost one match all season the leaders wont be put off with a match against a team with a Won-3 Lost-3 home record. That is an identical record to Marsh United 'B' who host second in the table Almondbury Lib.
The next two teams in the table play each other as Hemplow host Thongsbridge 'A' with two points between them and both still retaining an interest in the second promotion place. As do Marsh Lib who are level on points with Thongsbridge 'B' with a game in hand and have foot of the table Brockholes 'B' as their Monday visitors.
