Veteran's 6-Man League Weekly Preview

Section A leaders, Shepley 'A' will undergo a full examination of their title credentials this week when they travel to play 3rd-placed Thongsbridge 'B'. Seven points behind them but level on points with 2nd-placed Netherton Con, the Thongsbridge outfit have their own incentive of the runners-up place immediately in their sights. To pinch that place they will have to better the result of Netherton Con who have a home game against lowly Paddock I&C who are in the middle of a desparate relegation battle involving the bottom four teams who are separated by 4 points. Two of those teams, the bottom two actually, go head-to-head this week as Oakfield have home advantage over Longwood.

Key fixtures this week at both ends of the Section B table as the 2nd and 3rd placed teams meet at Skel Windmill where the club's 'B' side meet Honley Con. The teams are level on points although the Skelmanthorpe side have played a game more but with the second promotion place at stake the incentives are high. Both teams will be looking beyond second spot as the leaders, Golcar C&BC, are only 4 points ahead and facing a difficult away encounter at 4th-placed Marsh United this Monday. In the relegation fight second from bottom Golcar Lib really need to beat a Meltham team who are one place higher and 5 points ahead of them. Having played a game more time is running out for the Golcar team who will have been heartened by their first win in 8 matches last week against Marsh United.

Slaithwaite's 14-point lead at the top of Section C could be extended further this week with the top three teams all playing away matches. The leaders go to lowly Brockholes 'B', second-placed Almondbury Lib are at Holmfirth 'B' who could do their 'A' team colleagues a favour but they in turn need to perform away at 4th-placed Hemplow to retain interest in the promotion chase. The bottom two teams meet at Shepley where the 'B' side take on Thongsbridge 'A' who have to look back to the reverse encounter for their last win which was in early June.
