BCGBA SGM Update

More information has been released about the structure of the Special General Meeting of the BCGBA scheduled for Saturday 14 November. In addition, I understand that there is an intent to move the venue of the meeting to a more central position to attract more attendees and to reduce the overall travelling time. This is to be confirmed.

The big surprise is that the meeting is open to all-comers from the bowling community but only as observers. Counties and organisations are allowed a maximum of two representatives each who can speak at the meeting and will carry a vote. The latest update on the SGM has been circulated by the BCGBA and is reproduced below.

I really do hope that both parties get around their differences to have a serious debate about the matters that separate them so that the balance of opinion represents a well-informed vote and that we are not to be subjected to a personal and heated exchange of threats. From what I have learned from the exchanges of position statements is that the BCGBA is advocating the changes already identified in their strategy document. Whereas the opposition prefer to continue the way things have always been done. That appears to me would be a final nail in the coffin of crown green bowling as we know it.

Everything points to the sport disappearing down the plug hole and to do nothing to try and arrest that slide into oblivion is a dereliction of duty. The statements from the self-appointed 'Executive Committee' has been very negative about the way that the BCGBA have managed the situation whilst offering little in the way of an alternative way forward other than retaining everything that has got the sport to this dire position. The latest update on the SGM has been circulated by the BCGBA and is reproduced below.
