Veterans League

A full fixture programme but not a good day for three of the five division leaders in the 10-Man League last Monday. The leading teams in Divisions 1, 2 and 4 all lost this week and for two of those it meant losing their position at the top.
The biggest surprise probably being at Elland C&BC where the Division 1 leaders were beaten 2-7 at home by Rastrick who were completing a league double over their opponents. As a result, Elland drop from 1st to 3rd and Rastrick move up four places to 4th. Golcar Lib 'A' resumed leadership after clocking up a 7th consecutive home win after beating Marsh United 'A' 8-1. There was an even bigger surprise for Lockwood Con 'A' as they went down 5-4 to lowly Lindley Lib 'A' who were winning for only the 2nd time in their last eight matches. Lockwood Con remain in mid-table although only 12 points behind the leaders with a game in hand.

Kirkheaton Con 'A' move up one place to second following their 6-3 away success at bottom of the table Lindley BC 'A'. A fifth win in their last 7 matches saw Waterloo beat Cowcliffe 6-3 and move from 7th to 5th. Meltham still haven't won away from home this season after going down 2-7 at Clayton West.
The Division 2 leaders, Milnsbridge 'A' were also beaten this week going down 2-7 at Broad Oak 'A' and their lead at the top was reduced from 15 points to 9 as Lowerhouses stay 2nd and continue their good form with an emphatic 8-1 home win over Netherton Con 'A' which is a major setback to the visitors own hopes of joining the promotion race, After a couple of dodgy performances resulting in defeats Almondbury BC 'A' returned to winning ways with a 6-3 away win at Lockwood Con 'B' but find themselves trailing in the wake of the two leaders at present.
The two leaders have both lost to New Mill 'A' recently in an unbeaten run of five matches which includes this week's 6-3 victory over another team above them in the table, Bradley & Colne.
Brockholes 'A' lost 2-7 at Slaithwaite and remain firmly rooted to the foot of the table with Lockwood Con'B' and Thorpe Green still to decide who will go down with them this year. Thorpe Green lost for the 7th successive time this time 4-5 at Hemplow 'A' and missing out on a win by losing the aggregate by 9 points. Shepley had a big 7-2 home win over Thongsbridge 'A' and pass them in the table as a result and both teams now look safe from getting involved in the relegation rigmarole.
Linthwaite Hall confirmed their top of the Division 3 table position with a big 8-1 home win over third-placed Skel Windmill who drop two places to 5th as a result. They were in a group of three locked together on 59 points at the start of the day but they were one of two of that trio to get beat as Holmfirth 'A' surprisingly lost 4-5 at home to Kirkheaton C&BC 'A'. However they recovered to win their Thursday home match against Almondbury Lib 8-1 (not included in the table alongside). The third member of that trio, Golcar Lib 'B' did win on Tuesday winning 6-3 at Almondbury Lib.
Those two defeats for Almondbury Lib have dragged them into the relegation battle now just 7 points off the bottom of the table as one of five teams classed as flirting in the drop zone. Two of those five had big wins this week with Marsh United dumping Lindley Lib 'B' to bottom spot with a 9-0 home win over their fellow strugglers. Springwood also passed the Lindley team after a convincing 8-1 home win over Paddock I&C to lift themselves from bottom place and ending a run of 4 straight defeats. Things got worse for the Lindley team on Thursday when they went down 2-7 away at Linthwaite Hall to extend their own losing run to four matches.
The top three teams in Division 4 all had away fixtures this Tuesday and only one of those three managed a win. That was Meltham 'B' who won 6-3 at Almondbury BC 'B' to go clear at the top of the table. The other two leading teams both lost to bottom-two opponents with previous leaders Ravensknowle Park going down at Thongsbridge 'B' 4-5 and Lindley BC 'B' lost by the same score at Brockholes 'B' and that means they have now lost their last three matches, hardly promotion form! Thongsbridge 'B' move up three places to 9th and find New Mill 'B' below them after their 2-7 reverse at Primrose Hill Lib.
Elland C&BC 'B' beat the Rugby Club on their own green to leapfrog them in the table into a group of 4 teams just behind the top three and separated by 3 points. Milnsbridge 'B' and Outlane sit just below that group of four and their match this week went the way of the visiting Outlane side who won 6-3.
The leading two teams in Division 5 both had 7-2 Tuesday home wins to maintain the status quo with Kirkheaton Con 'B' staying 15 points clear of Marsh Lib. David Brown Sports clocked up two 7-2 home wins this week after seeing off Holmfirth 'B' on Tuesday and then doing the same to Greenhead Park on Thursday and that lifted them to 3rd place above Dalton who were having the week off. Kirkheaton C&BC 'B' added to Greenhead Park's woes after beating them 8-1 on Tuesday.
