Veterans 6-Man League
Review of league fixtures played on 23 August
Skel Windmill 'B' won the club derby beating their 'A' team comprehensively 6-1 to push themselves up into second place in Section B although having played a game more than their two prime opponents for the promotion places. Honley Con had a bye week and lost their top position and dropped to third with Golcar C&BC taking over at the top as the title race continues to simmer and sway in different directions. After winning their first game of the season last week Primrose Hill Lib's hopes of mounting a recovery were hit with a whitewash 0-7 defeat at Meltham. Their plight was compounded by a win for Golcar Lib who scrambled to a 2-point aggregate (94-92) advantage and a 4-3 win over Marsh United. With Clayton West losing 1-6 at Golcar C&BC that drags them well into the relegation battle although Primrose Hill Lib look doomed. Five points separate the next three teams and next Monday's match between Golcar Lib and Meltham could be critical in determining the second relegation place.
Five matches in Section A this week and they all finished with the same 6-1 scoreline, three of them for the home side including the leading pair of Shepley 'A' and Netherton Con. That preserved Shepley's 7-point lead at the top and with third-placed Thongsbridge 'B' also winning 6-1 means that they and Netherton Con are still locked together on the same points total trailing the leaders. The top 5 teams all won retaining the great divide between the top and bottom halves with the bottom five all still in danger of being relegated with 10 points separating them.
Slaithwaite continue to set the pace at the top of Section B and a 7-0 home win over Hemplow enabled them to forge further ahead as Holmfirth 'A' were without a game and the gap extends to 15 points and surely they will be the first team to mathmatically claim promotion. There was also a notable away win for Brockholes 'B' as they beat Holmfirth 'B' 5-2 whilst Marsh Lib also had a good away win at Thongsbridge 'A' due to a better aggregate score of 89-83 to run out 4-3 winners.
