3 From 10 face Division 1 relegation

Veterans League

A preview of the Veterans 10-Man League fixtures for Tuesday 19 September

Still catching up with missed reports after being away on holiday last week to turn to a preview of Tuesday's Divisions 1 and 2 fixture programme. All the interest is on the bottom of Division 1 with 10 of the 13 teams mathematically in range of relegation with just 2 matches to go.

Milnsbridge 'A' are already down so that leaves 9 teams trying to avoid the other two expected relegation places. At least one more will join Milnsbridge in Division 2 and if the anticipated extra place also materialises due to the rebalancing of the divisions goes ahead as promised then that leaves a lot of teams quavering in their flat-bottomed bowling shoes.

Meltham will probably be the most nervous of those contenders as they only have one match left to play and that is at home to Marsh United 'A' who look odds on to finish as runners-up to Champions Golcar Lib 'A'. Meltham are already in the bottom three and although the Elland v Longwood result cannot send them down this week it can do a lot of damage to any survival intent. Cowcliffe would also like to move into safer waters but playing away at Golcar Lib 'A' is unlikely to offer such an opportunity and they may have to wait until their home match with Elland on the last day of the season.

The focus in Division 2 is on the top-of-the-table clash between the leaders Netherton Con 'A' and second-placed Lindley BC 'A'. Having home advantage and a 10-points lead should give the home team confidence in moving in on the title and a good win will go a long way to doing that as well as opening up the promotion prospects of third-placed Shepley. For that to happen they have to dispose of their opponents from Thongsbridge 'A' this Tuesday but will have no excuses if they don't do that on their own turf.

At the other end of the table the bottom three teams all have away fixtures this week and 4th from bottom Thorpe Green have a bye. That presents a great opportunity for Linthwaite Hall to escape the drop and secure the 3 points they need to ensure survival after their promotion from Division 3 last year.
