League News

Further to Bill Blackburn's article about recruitment of people to serve on the Committee of the Veterans League I have received an article for publishing from a local bowler. He has asked me to withold his name but I am aware of who it is. You can do the same if you have a view on this topic, or any other bowling-related matter, that you wish to share in the local bowling community.
Please use the form at the foot of this page to get in touch but let me know if you prefer to withhold your name from being published.

With respect to Mr Blackburn and his concerns regarding the need for new blood. I have been involved in the bowling scene for in excess of 30 years. I have served on both club and league management committees and one of the main problems has been and still is in quite a few cases the “Old Guard” has been very reluctant to welcome the “new blood”.

In many organisations there are people who have worked very hard but after a number of years tend to be against change. These people with their experience are essential but what is also just as essential is new blood and people who will question how and why things are done.
If all these new people get responses to their suggestions etc, along the lines of - “ we’ve always done it this way” - “we once tried what you are suggesting but it didn’t work “ etc and also keep information to themselves then the new people will lose heart and drift away.
As an outsider, it seems to me with all the vacancies for officials and Committee members that…
