Almondbury Lib aim to return to winning ways

Veterans League

Preview of the Veterans 10-Man League Divisions 3, 4 & 5 fixtures for Tuesday 8 August

With only one defeat in their last six matches, and that was last week at top-of-the-table Golcar Lib 'B', Almondbury Lib are the Division 3 form team. Playing away from home is no worry for the Lib who have won all but one of their away matches although Slaithwaite is never usually an easy place to win except at present as they have lost their last two home matches.

Brockholes 'A' are a team out of form having lost 4 of their last 5 fixtures by the same 2-7 scoreline which has seen them drop out of the promotion race. This week they have to play away at the team at the top of the table, Golcar Lib 'B' with a 19 points gap between the teams.

The bottom two teams both have home matches this week against teams in the lower half of the table. Meltham 'B' host Outlane whilst Lockwood Con 'B' have Skel Windmill as visitors. That leaves Huddersfield Recreation Club vulnerable as they have to go to play Kirkheaton C&BC 'A'.

Denby Dale cannot afford to drop points from home matches if they are to stay on the tail of the top two teams but with Paddock I&C as visitors this week that will be no easy formality.

The top four teams in Division 4 all have home fixtures this Tuesday with the leaders, Lindley Lib 'B', hosting bottom-of-the-table Kirkheaton Con 'B'. That should be an easier task than their nearest rivals Springwood, who welcome Primrose Hill Lib, who have won their last two matches to move off the foot of the table.

Third-placed Marsh Lib also have a bottom-four opponent with Almondbury BC 'B' the visitors who have a poor recent record losing their last four matches. That leaves fourth-placed Marsh United 'B' who have Thongsbridge 'B' as visitors and they are also on a poor run of 4 straight defeats.

The remaining fixture pairs up Ravensknowle Park (one defeat in last 4) against Huddersfield RUFC (one win in last 5) which could provide a way out of the drop zone for the Park if other results go their way as well.

Division 5 leaders, Milnsbridge 'B' will expect to pick up the majority of the points from their visit to play Hemplow 'B' and consolidate their lead at the top. With their nearest challengers, Brockholes 'B' having a home match against Greenhead Park, who lost 0-9 at Netherton Con 'B' in their last match, they cannot afford to slip up.

New Mill 'B' lost 0-9 at Broad Oak 'B' last week to end a run of six good wins and they will be looking for a reaction to that setback when welcoming David Brown Sports. Whilst David Brown Sports have a great 100% home win record they have an indifferent away record, the New Mill team will be looking to revert back to their earlier form and resume their winning ways.

Neither Dalton nor Netherton Con 'B' (despite that recent 9-0 win) are in their best form of the season when they meet up this Tuesday. The bottom two teams meet at Holmfirth where Kirkheaton C&BC 'B' are the visitors and whatever happens there is unlikely to change the positions of either team in the table.
