Almondbury BC need big win this week

Winter League A preview of Division 2 matches to be played on Wednesday 26 January

The teams at the top of the table are well spread out with 21 points between the top three and with Meltham having a 12 point lead over second-placed Lindley Lib. However not everything is cut and dried as Springwood 'A' are 9 points behind Lindley Lib with a game in hand and with 5 weeks still to go plenty can soon change. Ultimately the final week of the season sees Lindley Lib matched against Springwood 'A' so it would be fitting if everything hinged on that last day of the season.

Before then lots can still happen and Springwood 'A' have a difficult encounter this week against fourth-placed Jackson Bridge. The Bridge are the only team to inflict an 8-0 win over Springwood this season so some scores still to settle there.

Lindley Lib will be looking to repeat the 8-0 scoreline they inflicted on bottom-of-the-table Paddock I&C last time they met. Denby Dale will be looking to add to last week's 5-3 victory which ended a run of three straight defeats but it would be a surprise if they did as they take on leaders Meltham who continue to extend their winning run which now totals 12 matches.

The remaining match in this division is a real crunch encounter with the two teams trying to avoid the second relegation place meeting and featuring Almondbury BC who are on a run of 5 straight defeats. Their opponents this week are Huddersfield Recreation Club 'A' who have won 3 of their last 6 fixtures to raise hopes of avoiding the drop after a poor start to the season which saw them lose their first 5 matches including a 2-6 defeat to this week's opponents.

It all takes place at Springwood on Wednesday starting at 12noon. Spectators are most welcome and hot and cold refreshments are available for all.
