ALL OUR YESTERDAYS

30 Years ago in March 1991

As the build-up to the 1991 season continued there was great anticipation at Broad Oak as they opened their new £300,000+ clubhouse for the first time. An opening ceremony conducted by Huddersfield comedian Ceddie Beaumont was performed when he unveiled a commemorative wall plaque.

Things weren't so good at Brighouse as they withdrew their team from the Subscription Cup. Twice Yorkshire Cup winners and twice runners-up in the last 5 years they cannot raise a full team for the 1991 season so have had to withdraw. The Brighouse team has been a major player in the Subscription for the last 4 years finishing runners-up to Longwood the previous year and past Champions in 1988.

Earlier in the month at The Griffin, Tony Wilson had won the Stones Cup (picture below) after coming from 16-22 down to eventually beat Paul Sigsworth 31-24 and take the pre-1900 trophy and £250 cash prize.
