Review of the 10-Man League Divisions 3, 4 & 5 matches played on Tuesday 5 September
A 9-0 home win for Lindley Lib 'B' over bottom-of-the-table Primrose Hill Lib cemented the Division 4 title and the promotion that goes with it. With one match left to play they can relax in the knowledge that they cannot be caught.
However, who is going up along with them remains very much up for grabs after 3rd-placed Marsh Lib thrashed 2nd placed Springwood 8-1 to narrow the gap to a single point and both teams with 2 fixtures left to play. That almost guarantees that the race will go through to the last Tuesday of the season when Marsh Lib have a home match with Primrose Hill Lib.
Ravensknowle Park and Huddersfield RUFC are fighting to avoid the '3rd relegation place' and both teams had setbacks in that quest this week. The Park went down 2-7 at Marsh United 'B' and the Rugby Club lost 1-8 at Almondbury BC 'B'. My forecast that the winner of that match would be the one team out of the bottom five to escape relegation remains tight as the Almondbury team have a one-point lead now over The Park but have still to play the top two teams in the Division to complete their season.
The Park have only one match left to play and that is next week at home to promotion chasing Marsh Lib so the Rugby Club and the Almondbury team will know their points target as they go into their final fixture on the last day of the season. Gripping stuff!
It is also getting very interesting at the top of the Division 5 table but that is more about the second promotion place as Milnsbridge 'B' look nailed on for top spot. An 8-1 home win over Greenhead Park this week means they only need 3 points from their last two fixtures to claim the title. Brockholes 'B' (2nd) and Broad Oak 'B' (3rd) met this week with the Badgers sneaking it 5-4 to register an 8 points lead over their nearest rivals but having played one match more. There could be a late shake up of matters here as well as 4th placed David Brown Sports could still steal that 2nd promotion place as their final two matches are against teams in the bottom three in the table and that challenge cannot be ignored.
