6-Man League top 2 clash

Veterans League

Preview of the 6-Man League fixture programme for Monday 24 April

The top two teams in Division 1 meet up this week when the leaders, Shepley 'A', host 2nd placed Marsh United 'A'. Both teams are on 12 points with a one-point (198-197) aggregate total difference separating the two teams. This is a first league meeting between the two teams since Marsh United joined the League in 2019.

Two promotions since then sees them joining the big boys for the first time this season and they have made a bright start to their season with two 6-1 wins to date. However they now face the ultimate test by taking on the two-times Champions on their own green so lots of things hanging on the outcome.

A close result could open the way for third-placed Netherton Con to take advantage although an away win at an Elland C&BC team looking for their first win since joining the League will not be a stroll in the park.

There is also a bottom-two clash in this division as Skel Windmill 'A' and Longwood go in search of their first wins of the season and one of them will achieve that this week. Two teams with Won-1 Lost-1 records to date meet at Thongsbridge where Milnsbridge 'A' are the visitors and once again home advantage is expected to play a huge part in the result.

The top four teams in Division 2 all have unbeaten records so far and that could be extended as they all avoid playing each other this Monday. Two of the four teams play home matches as Clayton West and Paddock are on hosting duty against Lindley Lib 'A' and Denby Dale respectively. Denby Dale's first season in the League isn't working out as planned with only one-point gained from their opening two matches and another tough fixture this week.

Golcar Lib lead the pack with a better Aggregate For record but have to travel to play Lindley Lib 'B' this week who are still smarting from their last home match which they lost 3-4 to Slaithwaite despite winning three of the games but suffered a 82-85 aggregate setback and the loss of two bonus points. Slaithwaite have started the season with two good wins and look forward to a trip to play Milnsbridge 'B'.

Holmfirth 'A', Almondbury Lib and Linthwaite Hall have all found the going tough this season as all still await their first wins of 2023. At least one of those three will break that sequence this week as Holmfirth 'A' and Almondbury Lib go head-to-head whilst Linthwaite Hall will fancy breaking their duck when Skel Windmill 'B' are their visitors.

The top three in Division 3 are all unbeaten and two of them meet up at Marsh Lib where the leaders, Holmfirth 'B' are the visitors. A Friday fixture at Thongsbridge 'C' worked out well for the Holmfirth 'B' side with an 8-1 win to give them a one-point lead at the top of the table as we approach week 3.

Second-placed Greenhead Park will be looking to extend their winning start to the season when they entertain bottom-of-the table Brockholes 'B' who will look on any points gained as a bonus this week. Home advantage for New Mill, Marsh United 'B' and Primrose Hill Lib this week could prove key in their respective fixtures against Shepley 'B', Hemplow and Thongsbridge 'B'.
