6-Man League Preview

Veterans League

Preview of matches to be played on Monday 17 April 2023

After a break on Easter Monday the 6-Man League resumes playing again with a full programme of fixtures for this Monday.

Shepley 'A' began the defence of their Division 1 title on the opening day of the season with an emphatic 7-0 home win to resume their position at the top of the table. They will be tested this week at Lockwood Con who have a proud record at this level over many seasons and will be looking to register their first win of the season after an opening day 1-6 defeat at Marsh United 'A'.

Two of the most likely serious contenders for honours this year are Netherton Con and Golcar C&BC who meet up this week. Both started the season with good wins and will be aiming to build on that where home advantage for the Netherton outfit may prove crucial on this occasion.

Three Division 2 teams clocked up 7-0 opening day wins and they share top billing at present and avoid each other this week.

The most difficult looking encounter for these three teams seems to face Golcar Lib who have to travel to Skelmanthorpe to take on the Windmill 'B' team there who had their own good start to the season with a 4-3 away win at Milnsbridge 'A' courtesy of a 80-79 aggregate scoreline.

Clayton West are at Holmfirth 'A' who are the Fantasy League's top tip for the Division 2 title but had a day-one defeat at Paddock I&C by 1-6 which they will be keen to recover from. Lindley Lib 'A' have home advantage over Milnsbridge 'A' which should give them the edge and the platform to remain in the top three for at least another week.

Denby Dale are a new team to the League and have been placed in Division 2 and will be aiming to open their winning account this Monday when they entertain Lindley Lib 'B' who lost their first home match 3-4 to Salithwaite.

Linthwaite Hall had a stressful introduction to the League last season when clearly placed in the wrong division and won only one of the 22 Division 1 matches. Life doesn't seem to have become any easier for them after losing their first match of the season 0-7 at home to Clayton West and they will be hoping for a better outcome at Slaithwaite but that is a big ask against last season's Julie Fuller Trophy sem-finalists.

Greenhead Park matched their 10-Man League team's start to the season with a whitewash home win which sees them top the Division 3 table. The 7-0 home win over Marsh United 'B' provides them a good platform to build on which is likely to be sorely tested at Hemplow who could only pick up two points from their trip to New Mill last week. Hemplow have attracted more than half (39/74) of the votes for Division 3 Fantasy League selections and those punters will be expecting an immediate reaction to that reverse. Interestingly Greenhead Park haven't attracted a single vote of Fantasy League support including those from their three own clubmen entries.

Meltham and Holmfirth 'B' both had opening day 7-0 home wins and both will look to continue those bright starts away at the two Thongsbridge teams this week with the Thongsbridge 'C' v Holmfirth 'B' being the first Friday afternoon fixture this season.
