6-Man League action replay

Veterans League

Review of the opening day's fixtures in the Veterans 6-Man League on 3 April

Shepley begin the new season in the same position that they ended the previous one - at the top of the Division 1 table after an opening day 7-0 home thrashing of Milnsbridge 'A'. That was one of seven whitewash opening day scorelines but the only one in the top division putting Shepley clear at the top.

Promoted Marsh United 'A' also had a good start to the season when overcoming Lockwood Con 6-1 to go second in the table.

Big wins also for Golcar C&BC and Thongsbridge 'A' who both clocked up 6-1 first wins of the new season. Skel Windmill's Division 1 debut is on hold after their opening day match against Crosland Moor had been put back until 1st May.

Half of the six Division 2 matches played resulted in 7-0 whitewash scorelines with Golcar Lib, Clayton West and Lindley Lib 'A' all setting off at great speed. Relegated Linthwaite Hall were on the receiving end of such a result at home to Lindley Lib 'A' which was a meeting of the two teams relegated from last year's Division 1.

The top three sit level on points with Paddock I&C just behind them after a 6-1 home win over Holmfirth 'A'.

There were also three 7-0 results, all home wins, in Division 3 as well this week.

Greenhead Park, Meltham and Holmfirth 'B' all getting off to the perfect start to a new season with whitewash scorelines. The three losing teams, Brockholes 'B', Shepley 'B' and Marsh Marsh United 'B' filled the three bottom places in the League last season and it is already starting to look like a repeat performance this season as well. The 7-0 win for Meltham being especially welcome after a run of 8 losses in their last 9 matches of last season pushed them through the relegation trapdoor.

All teams get a day off next week as it is a Bank Holiday Monday with no fixtures scheduled at all.
