Veterans League
Preview of the 10-Man League matches to be played on Tuesday 9 August

We take a different look when previewing the Veterans 10-Man League programme for this week by selecting what we believe to be the Match of the Day in each of the 5 divisions and all for different reasons.
Division 1: Meltham A v Golcar Lib A The 'Best Home Record' v the 'Best Away Record' line up against each this week at Meltham. The home side has beaten all-comers to their green this season and the ultimate test of the League leaders awaits them this week with several teams hoping that the home record remains intact and provide some hope to the chasing pack. Meltham have won their last 8 home fixtures with only the blot of a home defeat by Marsh United 'A' in their first home match of the season. Golcar Lib 'A' have won 5 of their 9 away matches so far and leaves us with a finely balanced match with two proud records at stake.
Division 2: Brockholes A v Lockwood Con B It is a 'Bottom 2' clash that catches the eye in Division 2 and although the Brockholes fate may already be decided as they are 19 points adrift of safety the same cannot be said for their visitors this week. Lockwood Con B are just 3 points away from safety and a game in hand over third from bottom Thorpe Green.

After today's match they have 4 of their remaining 8 fixtures at home and all winnable with only one top 6 team, Netherton Con 'A', among those visitors.
Division 3: Golcar Lib B v Linthwaite Hall Linthwaite Hall continue to lead the table although Denby Dale are 12 points behind having played one less match but the leaders will not want to offer their rivals any encouragement by faltering at this stage. They travel to play Golcar Lib B this week and no Division 3 team has won more home games than them this season but then again no team has won more away matches than the Linfit outfit.
The Golcar team are desperate for a win to boost their promotion hopes and have already beaten the other two teams above them in the table at home this season and would really value the full set with a win today.
Division 4: Meltham B v Brockholes B It is a Top v Bottom clash that we nominate as the Match of the Day in Division 4 with both teams involved in close contests to satisfy their very different ambitions this season. Meltham are just one point ahead of Ravensknowle Park who have a match in hand so a big win is a must as the Park have a home match today against mid-table RUBC although they did lose 3-6 to them earlier in the season. Brockholes are 3-points behind New Mill 'B' and the sanctuary of a third-from-bottom spot and having played a game less than their rivals so a win would close that gap immediately.
Division 5: Dalton v Marsh Lib It is 3rd v 4th in Division 4 with both still very much in the promotion hunt having two matches in hand over David Brown Sports in 2nd place. That makes these two teams the main two contenders for the second promotion spot and Dalton need to use home advantage to narrow the 7-point gap between the two teams.
