Winter League

The Huddersfield Winter League continues to recruit new teams for the 2026-27 season starting in October and running through to mid-February. Five teams have already applied to join the League for the new season and more are welcome up until the closing date of 1st July 2026, which is only 4 weeks away.
Over recent years the prime source of new teams has come from clubs that already have teams in the League. The Winter League has a total of 80 teams coming from 42 different clubs. We continue to encourage clubs with teams in the League to look at entering more teams to meet the demands of their club members.
We are now looking beyond an internal growth factor, to where it might be best to help other clubs to enter a team in the Winter League. As the minimum age of bowlers in the Winter League is 60 then it makes sense to target clubs in the Huddersfield Veterans League, which has an identical age constraint, as a potential source of membership.
In the Veterans 6-Man and 10-Man Leagues, there are a total of 108 teams coming from 43 different clubs. Of these, only 7 clubs do not currently have any teams in the Winter League. It makes sense then to target these clubs to try and entice them to test out the Winter League playing experience to see if it meets their members' needs.
These seven clubs are Almondbury Lib, Crosland Moor, David Brown Sports, Elland C&BC, Ravensknowle Park, Shepley and Waterloo.
Can I ask these seven clubs a couple of questions?
1. Has there ever been a discussion among your club members about putting a team in the Winter League and why did that never get any further? That is probably two questions but who is counting? (that is not my second question).
2. Would your club members be interested in having a discussion with a League official about what is involved in entering a team into the Winter League for the 2026-27 season?

The same contact details can be used for any team that has their thinking a little further advanced at this time and now wish to enter a team into the League. The same contact details can be used for any club interested in becoming a host green and how they can earn between £3,500 - £6,000 for hosting matches one day a week for a 14-week season.
