Preview of the Division 1 & 2 fixtures being played on Wednesday 7 December

The teams that finished 1 and 2 at the end of the 2021-22 Division 1 season go head-to-head again this Wednesday at Milnsbridge. However, whilst Lower Hopton have just regained the number 1 position Kirkheaton Con have had a very slow start to the campaign and currently languish in the second-to-bottom place in the table. It could become even worse for them before the start of action as the one team below them in the table play two league games this week.

The Lindley BC 'A' v New Millers match was postponed in early November due to team-raising difficulties at that time and will now take place prior to the start of the Wednesday fixture programme with a 10.30am start time. All three games will be played at the same time to clear the way for a normal 11.30am start for the full Wednesday programme. Anyone able to offer their services as markers for the early start time match will be most welcome.
This catch-up fixture offers New Millers the opportunity to go to the top of the table if they can clock up an 8-0 win first and then hold on to any lead when playing Clayton West in their second match of the day.
Thorpe Green will be keen to return to winning ways after suffering a first defeat of the season last week and they will be taking on a tired Lindley BC 'A' side who will have already played one match that morning and are still looking for their first win of the season. Meltham have drawn their last two matches 4-4 and will be looking forward to this week's encounter with Lindley Lib 'A' who came up with them from Division 2 at the start of this season and who they beat twice last term.
The only 100% win record in the League rests with Lindley BC 'B' and that record is on the line against a Lockwood Con team that has lost their last three Division 2 matches. With an eight point lead at the top, the Lindley BC team will be keen to retain that margin as they hit the halfway point of the season.
Four points separate the next four teams in the table led by Springwood 'A' who play another of that group when facing Milnsbridge 'A' this Wednesday. Unbeaten in their last four matches they face a Milnsbridge team with only one win in their last four matches. Lowerhouses 'A' are unbeaten since the opening day of the season and they have a more straightforward task against Jackson Bridge who won for the first time this campaign last week.
Bottom of the table Rastrick 'A' continue their search for a first win for two years when they meet a Denby Dale side keen to retain the 10-point gap between themselves and the relegation places.
Completion of this week's fixtures will see the Division 1 and Division 2 teams reach the halfway point of their seasons with every team having played every other team in their respective divisions. This may, or may not, be a guide to their final finishing positions but things are going to get more interesting as the promotion and relegation issues become clearer and tension mounts and we see which teams are better at handling that than their rivals.
