Worldies at Spen Victoria

Bowling News

The sun was shining at Spen Victoria when Bob Haigh decided to call in and view the opening round of the World Club Championships yesterday. He wasn't the only celebrity on display as the local MP, Kim Leadbetter (pictured below), was also there.

One of the first things that Bob noted was that there was no information available to help the casual spectator identify who was playing who. Two of the four teams performing were kitted out in their club colours and they were playing each other on the bigger green. This is the match that Bob decided to watch, whoever they were. There were no scoreboards available and no match programme to refer to for guidance.

The standard of bowling was very good and eventually Bob ended up making enquiries of other spectators and one gentleman told him that Pudsey was one of the teams but he had no idea who the other team was. Pudsey ended up being one of the two qualifiers to progress through to Finals Day to be played at the same venue on Sunday 17 April. The other qualifier being the South Yorkshire representatives from Dearne Sports.

Ray Tunnacliffe from Netherton (pictured below) was one of the referees on duty and Bob was complimentary about the food and drink on offer (menu below) but not impressed by the spectator-unfriendly experience. For your and Bob's information the full scorecards and results of all the day's matches are shown below along with the photographs that Bob took around the green.
