Winter League still open to new teams

Winter League

At the Winter League Annual General Meeting yesterday it was decided to leave membership for new teams open until 1st September. At that point, the makeup of the proposed three divisions will be determined based on playing records and the fixtures will be released shortly after that date.

The three host clubs have been asked to identify their preferred opening date of the new season and the League is prepared to have three different starting dates if required. Clubs have different plans for their greens to complete their Autumn maintenance programmes prior to releasing them for winter matches. It is anticipated that all three divisions will start their matches sometime in October depending on arrangements with the three host clubs.

The clubs also agreed to revert to the original proposal for matches to be of 2 Singles and 1 Pairs games. This was altered last season due to the COVID situation and the concerns about having too many bowlers in a restricted area so the format was changed to 4 Singles games. With this change it was also agreed to change to a new points scoring system with 2 points to be awarded for each of the 3 games and a further 2 points for the highest aggregate score, so making a total of 8 points available at each match.

A full report of all the decisions made at the meeting will be added to the website in the near future.
