Winter Cup: Last 24 play on Wednesday

Winter Cup

The Round of the Last 24 in the Winter Cup will be staged at Lindley Lib on Wednesday (10 April) with a 1.00pm start time, that is if it ever stops raining. There will be two rounds played to get the numbers down to 8 who will progress through to Sunday's Finals Day which again has a 1.00pm start time.

The draw for the Round of the Last 24 was made at the League's Management Committee on 28 March and the headlines from that are:

  • Eight bowlers have opening round byes, four of those being Scratch bowlers

  • There are 6 scratch players left in the competition and only 2 of these are in the bottom half of the draw enhancing the chances of Andy Balmforth and Tony Butterfield

  • There is only one definite inter-team game which is also an inter-family clash as the Marsh United duo of husband and wife Steve and Julie Mallinson face each other. They were the first two names out of the hat and both get byes through to the Round of the Last 16.

With the first two winners of the title, Steve Haigh and Ian Briggs, both already eliminated we are looking for a new Champion of this impressive trophy. All bowlers are asked to register at least 15 minutes before the start time on both days.

Handicaps are based on the qualifying competition bowlers progressed through whilst all County and Inter-District bowlers play off scratch regardless of which division they play in.

The full draw is now on our Bowlsnet pages where you should click on the COMPS button in the top border menu and then click on Winter Cup Finals Days
