A new low for Inter-District team

I don't like to kick a team when they are down but Friday's 19-37 defeat to a Skipton team winning their first match of the 2026 Yorkshire Veterans Inter-District hit a new low for the Huddersfield team. This was a first-ever win for a Skipton team over a Huddersfield team. Losing both the Home and Away legs was a big setback for a Huddersfield team struggling to capture the form of their predecessors who hold the record number of title wins for any team in this competition but those glory days have dried up over the last 4 years.
I forecast a good win for the Huddersfield team when previewing the match and noting that the Skipton side had lost both of their opening fixtures to teams they had easily beaten last season. I was wrong.
My rant earlier this month looked at the teams and home green selection and I am convinced that some valid points were made but I get no satisfaction from that. I only hope that some decisive action is now taken to address the problem otherwise, I fear that we are heading for a worst-ever season. It is clear that continuing in the same mould is not going to bring the glory days back to our chances of featuring at the top level in this competition. Maybe the answer lies here: 'The problem and the solution'
