Winter Cup: 4 Netherton Qualifiers

Winter League

Twenty-four entries for the Netherton Con Qualifier for the Winter Cup and we were blessed with a fine day and sunshine almost all the way to the end. Four more bowlers have qualified for the Last 20 knock-out stage and they were Jim Nolan (Netherton Con), John Madden (Almondbury BC), Graham Parr (Milnsbridge) and Graham Sykes (Milnsbridge). These four will be representing Division 5 at Springwood on Wednesday 12 April when the Last 20 will be whittled down to 16 to go forward to Finals Day.

After being presented with his trophy for being the Division 4 Top Bowler, Milnsbridge bowler, Ian Parr was dumped out of the Winter Cup at the first hurdle when home bowler Geoff Dyson scored a shock 15-6 win. All matches were 15-Up to ensure that the matches were finished before dark and all matters were concluded in three-and-a-half hours.

That makes it 12 qualifiers are now known and are added to the four Netherton representatives as listed above are Margaret Pointon (Hudd.Rec.Club), Nigel Kaine (Thorpe Green) Elaine and Michael Bell (Brockholes) who all progressed from the Thorpe Green qualifier. Then over at Lindley Lib the last four standing from there were Ray Clayton (Netherton Con), Peter Laycock (Marsh Lib), John Sunter (Hudd.Rec.Club) and Paul Cooney (Lindley Lib).

Next Wednesday it is the turn of the Division 1 and 2 bowlers to compete to tease out the top four bowlers from each venue to make up the Last 20 contenders from the 104 starters.
