What is in your bowling bag?

Updated: Jun 29, 2021

Bowling News

A contribution from Hazel Rangeley looks at the logistics of diving into your bowls bag which has sat in the car boot for 18 months. Will you be surprised at what you find there? Read on ....

So what's in your Bowls Bag? Time to get the bowls bag dusted off and ready for action.

In addition to chucking out all the old stuff like mouldy cloths, sticky sweets, banana skins, your best score cards and that leaky pen, a few new additions might come in very handy this year.

What essentials will you be adding? I've already got quite a list.

Some items to consider - hand sanitizer, face masks, a few spare pens for signing in when you forget the mobile, drinks, mood-enhancing or otherwise, as these will be few and far between at the start of the season, and a pair of Marigolds.

Marigolds? yes that's for the captains extra Covid 19 safety cleaning responsibilities, and as you know all good captains will be delegating this job at every opportunity.

Emptying the jack and mat cleaning bucket, cleaning the toilet and wiping down surfaces, oh the delights of bowling, cant wait.

Just another point worth considering. Do you keep any illicit/secret material hidden in your bag? On occasions having found bags left inadvertently at greens, and rummaging through as you do to find out the owners details, a variety of personal possessions have been discovered. Items which are obviously for the owners eyes only - so if you think you might forget your bag best to find a new hidey hole for this very interesting but highly personal stuff!

Happy days

Thanks Hazel - reading this made me think about the different expectations that a male bowler and a lady bowler would have about the contents of their bowling bags. Not sure that there would be many pairs of Marigolds in male bags but what will you uncover when you delve into the deepest corners of your bag? Personally, my first foray into the bag revealed my spare car keys which I was convinced I had lost. What surprises are in store for you?
