The review of Division 3 matches played on Wednesday at Springwood

A leap of three divisions for the 2024-25 Division 6 Champions proved to be no problem for Almondbury BC B team as they top the Division 3 table at the end of week 1 of the new season at Springwood. I was surprised that the newcomers had cast the Lockwood Con A team aside. They represented a good benchmark as they have played at Springwood for the past 4 seasons finishing in 4th place last season so this was a good outcome for the Almondbury team. A 6-2 win on the opening day of the season secures them top spot even though they did not have the best opening result of the day.

That honour belongs to Denby Dale who whitewashed the hosts, Springwood, 0-8 which almost wiped out the -10 point penalty incurred by them on declining promotion. It wasn't a good week for my promotion and relegation tips as neither of my top two tips won with Lindley BC B going down 2-6 to Slaithwaite and Lindley Lib B were held to a 4-4 draw by Thorpe Green, my relegation tip. That was the first drawn match of the season anywhere and came about by the Lindley Lib winning two of the three games but losing out on the Aggregate Total which gave Thorpe Green the bonus two points.

Ann Earnshaw

I have been at two different greens this week and at both venues I have seen Ann Earnshawthere cheering on her club friends from Almondbury BC. Ann follows them everywhere and enjoys nothing more than marking a card. She was at Primrose Hill on Monday, Paddock I&C on Tuesday and I note from the photographs below provided by John Pix that she was also at Springwood on Wednesday. At the last two of those 3 days an Almondbury team was playing. No doubt when their third team, their A team, resume business at Netherton Cons at the end of the month she will be there as well. Well done Ann it is so good to see you out and about and enjoying your bowling.
