Vets League Divisions 1&2 games previewed

Veterans League

A preview of the Division 1&2 fixtures in the Veterans 10-Man scheduled for Tuesday 21 April

Elland WMC will find out a little more about themselves and their hopes of establishing themselves as Division 1 regulars when they play their first away match of the season when travelling to play Marsh United A this Tuesday. However to stay top of the table they will have to at least match the result coming from Lowerhouses this week who sit level on points with the new boys to Division 1. But the Lowerhouses home record of not losing on their own turf since 18 July 2023 when Marsh United A prevailed they will have little fear of missing out to Rastrick who they had an 8-1 home win over last season.

Things don't get any easier for Clayton West after finishing third last season and being matched against the two teams that finished above them in their opening two fixtures. A home defeat to Lowerhouses last week is now followed with a trip to play the 2025 runners-up, Longwood, where only the eventual Champions beat them that season.

With three consecutive years with top-five finishes, Cowcliffe find themselves in the wrong half of the table and need the boost of a home win when Lockwood Con A come to visit. Add to that a League double over their Tuesday opponents last season they will be hopeful of a good win to kick-start their season.

After relegation from Division 1 in 2024 and a bottom half of the Division 2 table outcome last season Lindley BC A have started the 2026 season much brighter. An 8-1 home win over Denby Dale on the opening day of the season sees them sitting proudly at the top of the table but they need to add to that this week when playing away at Shepley to really promote their hopes of a better season ahead.

Meltham A had a positive reaction to their relegation last season when starting the new campaign with an 8-1 home win over Milnsbridge A. This is just normal for the Yo-Yo Meltham team who have been promoted or relegated between the top two divisions for the last three seasons and they will be aiming for a continuation of that sequence again this year. If they aim to achieve that once again this year then they need to pick up wins against bottom half of the table opposition which fits the standing of Tuesday's visit to Broad Oak A.

Waterloo only won two fixtures last season resulting in the obvious relegation from Division 1 and their opening day defeat at Almondbury BC A will have done little for their hopes of an immediate return to a higher level. This week they have to play the other Almondbury team in their division, the Liberal Club, who have made a good start to their season with a 7-2 first home win after their promotion to this level.
