Veterans League new vacancy

Veterans League

The 2021 Half-Year Meeting of the Veterans League will be held at Paddock I&C tomorrow (Tuesday 12th) starting at 2.00pm. As well as presentations to all the competition winners two rule changes will be debated and voted upon. In addition, an appeal is expected to be made for more people to get involved in running the League.

The League has received three resignations that will need filling for the 2022 season. Previously announced on this website, but nowhere else, is the resignation of David Sykes as Competition Secretary although he will continue as League Secretary and Paul Rushworth standing down as a Committee member. Ian Kinloch

Add to that the more recent indication that Vice-President Ian Kinloch is standing down and will not be allowing his name to go forward to take on the position of President for the usual two-year term of office from February 2022.

The League already has an Acting President with Alan Sharpe filling the role since Allan Dobson stood down in July 2020 and he has indicated that he is not prepared to serve another term in that role. A third official position is also vacant as there is also an opening for a new Vice-President who would become President for the 2024 and 2025 seasons.

With 5 vacancies on the 8-man Management Committee to go along with the need for a new President and Competition Secretary there is an urgent need for new blood to help with the running of the League.

The meeting will also hear from the Treasurer as regards likely annual club subscriptions for the 2022 season as well as a debate and vote on two proposed rule changes. The League has received and circulated two rule changes proposed by clubs to be discussed and voted on at the Half-Year meeting. It seems that the two proposed rule changes are designed to tackle the same perceived problem of 6-man and 'B' teams struggling to field full teams. The following proposals have been circulated to all clubs in the Veterans League.

Rule change 1, proposed by Netherton Conservative Club and seconded by Kirkheaton Conservative Club states: We, the undersigned, would like to propose a rule change. Instead of 10 men per team it is reduced to 8 men per team of which the format will be 2 pairs and 4 singles. Rule change 2, proposed by Marsh United and seconded by Slaithwaite C&BC states: Amendment of Rule 1c, Page 52.
