Veterans League General Secretary to stand down

Veterans League

Richard Armitage, General Secretary of the Veterans League, is to stand down from office at the next Annual General Meeting in February. Richard has informed the Management Committee that he intends to leave the post that he has held since February 2020.

He is not the only one as this follows the recent news that David Sykes has confirmed that he will stand down as Competitions Secretary at the end of this season although he will continue as League Secretary.

Finding replacements has proven problematic in recent years especially with the League's preference to promote from within but with numbers being low that is not always possible. The League's website currently lists a Management Committee of 11 members headed by the President, Vice-President, Treasurer and three secretaries (General, League and Competition). There are a further 6 Committee members, Frank Greenwood (who is also the Vice-President), David Armitage (Hemplow), Phil Warbrick (Honley Con), Ian Kinloch (Lindley Lib), Peter Allen (Hemplow) and Alan Sharpe (Almondbury Lib).

It is not known how many of them are active members but certainly numbers were short on the ground at the League's Lower Division Trophy Finals Day at Outlane yesterday. Only the Competition Secretary, not for the first time this season. was going solo up until the last half-hour. He, embarrassingly, had to ask an Outlane official to fulfil at least one of the League's roles in the absence of anyone else and guess who ended up chasing volunteer scorers? The League's website headlines advertising the final says 'ITS A FINAL - BE THERE! which apparantly doesn't apply to the Committee.
