Two Winter League greens get AIR2G2 makeover

Work continues at Milnsbridge in preparation for the 2022-23 Winter League season with a major piece of work being undertaken using an AIR2G2 machine.

The AIR2G2 is a self-propelled hydrostatic drive, three-probe air injection machine (that even sounds impressive before its done anything!). The probes inject compressed air directly into the soil profile at set levels. Air is injected in two stages, first at six inches which breaks up the 'Compaction Layer'. The second air injection takes place up to twelve inches beneath the surface.

The double blast air injection covers a horizontal area of five feet proving extensive aeration allowing a swift application of the machine across the playing surface.

This machine is pictured below at Milnsbridge. Prior to its arrival a scarifying exercise had been completed by club members and a later application of a top dressing and seeding will be applied to maximise the benefit to the process.

The hire of the machine and man for half-a-day to complete this work is around £350 if two greens are booked for the same day. Milnsbridge have partnered with Springwood BC to attain those financial benefits.

So when next you bowl at Milnsbridge or Springwood just think about all the work that has gone into achieving the playing surface you are enjoying. Both greens are in use in the Winter League and although this work programme has delayed the availability of these greens until later in the month that is a delay that is expected to prove a wise investment in time not just for the Winter League.
