Winter League
A preview of the Divisions 5 & 6 fixtures to be played on Tuesday 12 December
An extra round of fixtures in Divisions 5 & 6 with the rearrangement of the matches postponed on Thursday 30 November. This means a 4-day week for bowling this week with matches every day Monday to Thursday. If you count the new Milnsbridge Friday League then you have bowling every weekday. This is the first Tuesday ever used for Winter League matches as we have always avoided Tuesdays in the past to swerve any clashes with the Hove Edge Winter League which is no longer in existence.
A couple of notes for bowlers in Divisions 5 & 6
1. If you bought raffle tickets at the Division 6 fixtures at Huddersfield RUFC last Thursday the 1st prize has not been claimed. Ticket 425 wins the Breakfast Plate and it can be collected from the Rugby Club at Tuesday's matchday.
2. You can still book your Christmas Pie 'n' Peas Lunch to be held at both venues after bowling on Thursday 21 December. Please also note that matches start 30 minutes early at Huddersfield RUFC on that date.
Only 10-points separate the top 8 teams in Division 5 in the most congested division this season. Outlane have been going backwards recently winning only one of their last four matches although that was a key victory over 2nd placed Slaithwaite. Without a match this Tuesday they will undoubtedly lose top spot although who will take it over remains pure speculation.
The 2nd and 3rd placed teams go up against each other as Slaithwaite take on Brockholes B and both of them have only won one of their last four fixtures. If they end up in a close result then that opens the way for a Jackson Bridge team at the top of their game having won their last four matches. Jackson Bridge play bottom-of-the-table Netherton Con B who will do well to avoid a 4th whitewash result of the season.
Springwood C have won their last two matches by the same 6-2 scoreline - one against the leaders and one against the bottom team. This Tuesday they take on Mirfield A who dropped into the relegation zone last week and need a quick response to address any downward spiral. Just above them in the table are the B teams from Huddersfield Recreation Club and Almondbury BC and they meet each other in another key encounter.
Linthwaite Hall will be looking to bounce right back after their first defeat of the Division 6 season last week when they went down 2-6 to the Rugby Club. A recovery against 2nd placed New Mill C would be a significant step forward but the two teams have identical Won-6 Lost-1 Drawn-1 records but Linthwaite Hall have an 8-points lead at present but that could all disappear in one match.
Creeping up on the blindside of the top two is Lockwood Con B and they will relish a match against bottom two team Kirkheaton Con B. Huddersfield RUFC will be buoyant after last Thursday's win over the lleaders and need to build on that this week and a match against bottom of the table Mirfield B offers the ideal opportunity for them to do that. Broad Oak against Golcar C&BC completes the Tuesday programme of matches.
