A review of the matches played at Thorpe Green on Monday 24 January 2022

The top two teams in Division 3 both claimed 8-0 wins this week to create a commanding lead at the top of the revised table. Dalton, on the back of a seven-match unbeaten run, had threatened to join them in a three-horse race for promotion but that dream ended as Lindley BC 'B' tossed them aside in a decisive manner.

That win did not come without its uncertain moments for the Lindley team especially when their unbeaten bowler Steve Haigh was 3-10 down to John Inman before recovering to extend his winning run into double figures with a final 21-17 winning scoreline. That enabled the Daisy Lea Lane team to maintain pressure on the leaders Thorpe Green 'C' with the difference still two points but now 16 ahead of the chasing pack and a private battle on for the title. Dalton went away with no points but with two raffle prizes as their only consolation.

Thorpe Green 'C' may have protected their lead at the top by winning 8-0 over Milnsbridge 'B' but again that scoreline was regularly under threat throughout the match none more so than the pairing of Gill Todd against Milnsbridge's George Henry who eventually went down 20-21 to rob them of two points their persistence probably deserved.

A third 8-0 scoreline on the day saw Rastrick 'B' overwhelm Springwood 'B' although the meeting between Rastrick's Derek Hanner against David Turner produced a classic. Derek was behind 0-7 and 7-14 but fought back to claim the game 21-20 after trading ends in the final stages as both struggled to dominate the jack on their preferred marks. That win pushed the Rastrick team back into third place with Dalton dropping two places to fifth.

Wedged between them in fourth place is the Brockholes team who suffered a third consecutive 2-6 defeat against teams below them in the table. This time it was the Lowerhouses's 'B' team that profited to ease themselves above Milnsbridge 'B' in the table after three wins in their last four fixtures. Again there was another notable recovery in this match as Richard Walker came from 6-12 down to run out 21-16 and Brockholes' only winner on the day.
