Review of the results of the 6-Man League fixtures played on Monday 13 May
The 6-Man League Division 1 leaders suffered a shock 2-5 home defeat by Waterloo on Monday which left them clinging on to top spot. Lindley Lib A lost for the second time this season, the first time at home, as Waterloo made it three wins on the bounce to enhance their title chances. Waterloo are one of no less than nine teams within 5 points of the leaders who hold a one point lead over three teams queueing up to threaten their status.
It wasn't just the leaders that had a bad day as all the top four teams lost their matches this week. Second in the table Slaithwaite went down 3-4 at Paddock I&C where an 89-89 aggregate draw added to the drama. Then Skel Windmill A and Brockholes A both took 1-6 hammerings to drop from 3rd and 4th positions to 6th and 8th respectively.
Two of the bottom four teams had refreshing wins for as well as Paddock I&C turning over Slaithwaite, there was Thongsbridge A surprising Brockholes A with a similar 6-1 winning margin. That lifted the Thongsbridge team up two places to 9th passing Milnsbridge A and Shepley A who had a close outcome to their match with Milnsbridge coming out on top 4-3 despite losing the aggregate 88-89.
Home defeats for Crosland Moor (1-6 to Golcar C&BC) and Lockwood Con (0-7 to Netherton Con) left them firmly rooted to the bottom of the table.
The top two teams in Division 2 carry on in commanding style with both clocking up big wins but they cannot shake off a persistent New Mill team who retain a real interest in the race for the title. Golcar Lib hang on to top spot after a 6-1 away win over Linthwaite Hall and were the only away team winner in the division.
Meanwhile Clayton West went one better with a 7-0 home win over Elland C&BC to draw level on points with the leaders. That leaves both teams on 33 points but New Mill continue to be a nuisance by also recording a 7-0 win when they saw off visitors Greenhead Park A and sit 3 points behind the two pace-setters..
However the pace is too hot for Marsh Lib A who drop from 4th to 6th after a 1-6 hammering at Holmfirth A who take over 4th spot from their rivals. They were also overtaken by Bradley & Colne who clocked up a 4th successive win this time at home to Lindley Lib B with a 6-1 scoreline. Home wins for Hemplow and Almondbury Lib saw them both pass Milnsbridge BC B and bring Longwood back in firing range.
Brockholes B won club bragging rites after beating their C team by 6-1 and so retain their lead at the top of the Division 3 table. Denby Dale remain the major threat to the leaders after a 5-2 win at Meltham left them 7 points off the top but with a match in hand. Good home wins for Marsh Lib B and Skel Windmill B kept them both very much in the promotion mix with both on 23 points.
Greenhead Park B continued their good start to bowling in the League with a 5-2 home win over Holmfirth B although it took a 92-90 aggregate advantage to get them over the line and deny the Holmfirth team a second win of the season and a move off of bottom spot. Marsh United moved into the top half of the table after a 5-2 away win over Shepley B who remain in the bottom two as a result.
