Winter League
A preview of the Winter League Division 2 matches to be played on Wednesday 12 January
The top 2 teams in Division 2 go head-to-head and toe-to-toe this Wednesday as the unbeaten leaders Meltham take on second-placed Lindley Lib. Both teams have played 10 matches and there are 8 points between them so a whitewash win for the Lindley team would see them level on points at the top. That may be an unlikely outcome and it is certainly one that wouldn't be welcomed by third-placed Springwood 'A' as they strive to reduce the gap to the promotion places. The only team to have beaten Lindley Lib this season is Meltham and that by the unique 3-5 scoreline that has only resulted twice all season in any division.
Springwood 'A' will be aware of the top-two tussle but will be pre-occupied with their own match against Denby Dale playing at the same time. Denby Dale were Springwood's third consecutive 8-0 winner in their three opening matches to the season.
Almondbury BC will be hoping to end a run of 4 straight defeats when taking on bottom-of-the-table Paddock I&C who themselves have gone 6 matches without a win and both are desperate for a win. Another team desperate to win this week are Thorpe Green 'B' when they meet Jackson Bridge. Thorpe Green are in real danger of getting sucked into a relegation battle and still have to play the top 2 and the bottom 3 before the end of the season so points now will be worth their weight in reassurance.
All the action starts from 12noon at Springwood where spectators are very welcome but please be aware of the restricted on-street parking in the area where permit parking prevails and traffic wardens have heard all the hard-luck excuses before.
