Winter League
Preview of the fixtures in Divisions 1 & 5 scheduled for Wednesday 11 February

Two weeks of the Division 1 season still to go and matters at both ends of the table could be settled this Wednesday. In fact the result from the Lindley BC A v Thorpe Green A match could determine things at both ends. Should Thorpe Green A win 8-0 then they are assured of a third successive Division 1 title. Should Lindley BC A get two points from that match then that will send Kirkheaton Con A through the relegation exit.
The matter of the individual honours may not be resolved until the final day of the season with Thorpe Green A poised for a double swoop with Ian Briggs heading the Averages table. Should he complete that target then he would add to his 2023-24 success but he would still be one behind Lower Hopton's Graham Hirst triple count, so there's a new target for you Ian.

Monday will also see all matters in Division 5 finalised as it is the last day of the season for these eight teams. One of the two Mirfield teams will take the title honours with Mirfield A in prime position to win a first-ever team success in the Winter League. This is their third season in the League and they have become better each season with a best 2nd place finish last season. That saw them promoted to Division 5. In contrast, this is a first Winter League season for Mirfield Old Bank and they have never been out of the top two places all season. However they have struggled against their Mirfield opponents having failed to beat them in both fixtures which may result in them missing out on the Champions title.
The Old Bank team have the more difficult-looking final fixture on paper as they have to beat third-placed Jackson Bridge to stand a chance of passing their Mirfield neighbours However the destiny of the title is in Mifield A's hands as an 8-0 win over relegation-threatened Thorpe Green B will guarantee them a first title success.
Thorpe Green C could go down depending on the final day meeting of the two teams below them in the table, Dalton and Kirkheaton C&BC A. The Cricket Club sit two points behind the Thorpe Green C team and a win over Dalton will probably see them escape relegation.
Although Dalton are already relegated one honour could still be won. That is the individual Top Bowler award with Phil Goodge level top with Mirfield A's Michael Wood. They are currently level on the number of wins and with a big difference in the 'Aggregate Difference' figures (107-48), which is the second criterion used to separate the contenders. Phil has to win and hope for the best.
