Winter League
Review of the Division 1 and 2 fixtures played on Wednesday 23 November
A 6-2 win over Clayton West extended the unbeaten start to the season to 5 matches for Thorpe Green 'A' who continue to lead the Division 1 table by 2 points ahead of Champions Lower Hopton. That ended a 2-match winning run for Clayton West over the top and bottom teams in the table.
Lower Hopton are very much in contention at the top end of the table going second after seeing off Lindley BC 'A' 6-2 whilst Meltham shared the points with New Millers but dropped a position to third. This was a very tense affair with the New Millers winning one of the matches but losing the others 20-21 but deservedly collected the aggregate points to level the scores at 4-4.
Kirkheaton Con continue to struggle and show nothing like the form that took them into a final second place last season. This time it was Lindley Lib 'A' that benefitted but only a 2-point aggregate difference (52-50) enabled them to sneak the advantage 6-2 and climb two places to 4th.
An interesting fixture list for next week in Division 1 as the top two - Thorpe Green 'A' and Lower Hopton - play each other as do the bottom two - Kirkheaton Con v Lindley BC 'A'.
The Division 2 leaders are Lindley BC 'B' and they have the League's only 100% win record this season which was extended to five consecutive victories after seeing off Rastrick 'A' 8-0. Lockwood Con suffered a second successive defeat this time at the hands of Milnsbridge 'A' who won for the first time in 3 matches with a 6-2 score which pushed them up into the contest for the second promotion spot. That contest sees four teams separated by 2 points after Springwood 'A' and Lowerhouses 'A' drew 4-4 and both feature very prominently in that promotion battle.
Nearer the foot of the table saw Denby Dale beat Jackson Bridge 6-2 to leave the bottom two well adrift of the rest of the teams and both Rastrick 'A' and Jackson Bridge are 14 points from safety and both still looking for their first wins of the season and next Wednesday they play each other.
