Winter League
Report on the matches in Divisions 4 & 10 played on Monday 27 October

It is Week 3 in Division 4 and we have the third different table topper as Primrose Hill Lib lead for the first time this season on their own green. Following on from Netherton Con A after the Week 1 set of fixtures had been completed and then Huddersfield Recreation Club taking over last week. The tight nature of this division is further emphasised by the fact that only 4 points separate the top six teams and the teams in top and 6th position (Primrose Hill Lib and Linthwaite Hall A) have identical Won-2, Lost-1 records but sit 6 places apart.
Primrose Hill Lib go top after an 8-0 drubbing of Lindley Lib C sees them 3 points ahead of last week's leaders, Recreation Club A who lost 2-6 to Milnsbridge B who continue to ignore being my tip for relegation and sit comfortably in third place. Elland WMC claimed their first win of the season when inflicting a first defeat on Netherton Con A 6-2 but remain in the relegation places. Linthwaite Hall beat Brockholes A 6-2 to go level on points with their opponents in a congested mid-table with 4 teams on 12 points.

Rastrick resumed their connection with the Winter League in the 7-Week Division 10 programme by beating Lindley Lib E 8-0 to head the first table of the season. That puts them just ahead of Lindley Lib D who also won 8-0 this time over Outlane B.
The 8 teams in this division will just play each other once in a competition that will end before Christmas as a taster for these 8 teams in the hope that they will all become full-time members next season. To run a full 14-Week season next year depends on recruiting a new host green and the first steps in doing that take place on Thursday 13 November with an open invitation to any club interested in learning what becoming a host club entails to attend an open session at Netherton Cons on that date.
Meanwhile the 8 teams continued their introduction to Winter bowling when the rain came for a 15-minute spell that did not deter nor distract anyone as the matches continued. Two of the most fancied teams in this new division are Skel Windmill and Thongsbridge and they fought out a high-scoring 4-4 draw with Thongsbridge clinching the Aggregate For total 60-59. That leaves both teams in mid-table some four points behind the joint leaders. Hemplow B claimed a 6-2 win over Brockholes D to sit third in what may be a short season but promises to be anything but dull.
With around 50 bowlers and spectators witnessing the birth of Divison 10 there was a surprise but welcome switch, as there was some hot food available on matchday with the 'bowling-famous' Lindley Burger along with some cakes well received by the hungry patrons.
