The big divide in Division 8

Winter League

Review of the Division 8 matches played on Tuesday 4 November

The latest round of results in Division 8 has divided two very different sets of tables. The top three teams have broken away from the other 5 teams with a 12-points gap suddenly appearing. Leading the way is a very different Broad Oak B team to the one that narrowly escaped relegation last season and have won all four of the matches this season. The latest being a 6-2 victory over Cowcliffe C which puts them level on points with Hemplow A. Level on points with only a 2-points gap in their Aggregate For totals means the race is definitely on.

Hanging on in that three-horse race is Lockwood Con who collected the maximum 8 points from their match against Linthwaite Hall B. They still have points to catch up on the top two as a result of losing 0-8 the previous week to Broad Oak B and it is already clear that the meeting of these top three teams will decide the outcome of the promotion race.

Hemplow A have settled well to their first season in the League with an 8-0 win over Mirfield B being the latest sign of their potential. Golcar C&BC, last season's Division 8 Champions who declined promotion and so incurred a 10-points penalty to start this season, have reached their first milestone of ticking off the 10-points and move into positive numbers in the points total column. They now find themselves 26 points off asking for the same outcome again this season with being so far behind leaves them chasing a secure mid-table slot rather than reaching the upper regions of the table. A 6-2 win over Meltham B who are still looking for their first win of the season

A third consecutive 8-0 win promotes Kirkheaton Con C to second place in the updated Division 9 table but though they are level on points with the new leader, Greenhead Park, they are just one-point behind them (230-229) in the Aggregate For column. The Kirkheaton side's hat-trick of whitewash results came against Brockholes C who remain bottom of the table still looking to avoid defeat.

Greenhead Park beat the previous table-toppers, Kirkheaton C&BC C 6-2 to inch past them and take over topspot. The top three are inching away ahead of Marsh Lib B who drew 4-4 with Kirkheaton C&BC B who are starting to collect a few points after a slow start to their Winter League experience. Mirfield C claimed a 2nd win when beating Almondbury BC C by 6-2 and move out of the dropzone.
