Tabards are a no go but hello OSCAR

We previously reported on a survey of teams to judge the interest there could be for players wearing different coloured tabards (bibs) to help identify which teams are on the green at any time. This being just another initiative to improve communications around the green for bowlers and spectators alike.

All 40 teams were asked about their views on wearing these tabards. Twenty-five teams responded and only six of them supported the proposal with 19 against. However there was general support for the wearing of armbands with several teams mentioning this option although it wasn't a question of the survey.

Without the support of a majority of the teams it is clear that the use of tabards could not succeed and so the scheme has been shelved for the foreseeable future. The intent had been to develop the wearing of tabards to not only identify teams but also to support the introduction of the sharing of the latest game scores and results.

As one initiative ends another sprouts up (well it is Christmas) and we will be introducing OSCAR to you all in the New Year. OSCAR is an online scoreboard for matches on the green and the results of those games already completed. All transmitted to every smartphone around the green and anywhere else in the world at the same time all free of charge.
