Winter League
After the first round of fixtures in the new Division 4, Marsh Lib go top after a uniform set of three 21-12 results in their three opening day matches to put a marker in the ground as to their intent.
Marsh Lib were the only 8-0 opening day winners on the new Winter league green at Lindley Lib which was an impressive sight. Bowlers were full of praise, quite rightly, for a wonderful playing surface and at times the bowling matched the conditions as added to the pristine state of the green were blue skies and bright sunshine.
Good 6-2 wins for the new teams from Kirkheaton C&BC and the homesters making up the Lindley Lib 'B' team who only dropped one aggregate point in a 20-21 reversal. That game produced the Card of the Day (alongside) as the Milnsbridge 'B' bowler Steve Berry fought back from 9-21 down to win the points for his team. Claiming the jack on the edge of losing the game to move away from the straight mark that had proved so difficult for him, Steve added up a run of four 2's to level things at 20-across before adding the final point to claim a big win for his team.
Last year the Lowerhouses 'B' versus Huddersfield Recreation Club 'B' match was a Division 3 fixture and Lowerhouses won both legs 6-2. Not this time as the Recreation Club won 2 of the 3 games but lost the aggregate by 2 chalks (52-54) to end up sharing the spoils and the first 4-4 draw of the division's season.
