Still very tight at the top of Division 5

Winter League Review of the Division 5 matches played at Netherton Con on Thursday 19 January

The Division 5 top-of-the-table clash saw Almondbury BC 'B' overcome title rivals Thorpe Green 'C' 6-2 to move 4 points ahead of their opponents.

As one major rival is overcome another one emerges as Milnsbridge 'C' move into second place after beating a resurgent Brockholes 'B' team 6-2 to end their winning run of three matches. That means that the Milnsbridge team are 2 points behind the leaders and 2 points in front of third-placed Thorpe Green 'C'.

With the top three teams all avoiding each in their final two matches it may be that the promotion battle has already been won but no-one will be counting on that at this stage. Netherton Con 'B' were the only winners in the bottom three after beating the Rugby Club 6-2 leaving them at the foot of the table. With Golcar C&BC also losing 2-6 to Springwood 'C' to leave the bottom two still four points apart with the Rugby Club's two final fixtures against top three opponents to reduce their chances of catching up that four points and may have to settle for bottom spot.
