Springwood's frosty photos

Winter League

Half of the Springwood green was frost-affected making every end a stroll into the unknown. The woods went further on the white stuff as they skidded to a halt generally well past the jack. Most bowlers preferred to mainline the non-affected half but as bowlers became more desperate for points they resorted to dropping anywhere on the frosty ends in the hope that a lottery win might follow.

Sun in the eyes was another hazard including spectators who needed to stay in the sun to combat the cold weather of shaded spots. It all added up to an interesting Winter League programme with conditions that the summer leagues will never reproduce.
