Kirkheaton Con 64 2026 Winner – 'Sir' Robert Hitchen
What better way to finish the 10th Anniversary Kirkheaton Con 64 than with a victory for a genuine legend of the game. “Sir” Bob Hitchen – and no, before anyone asks, he hasn’t actually been knighted! It’s simply the name many in Yorkshire use for a man who has earned so much respect through a long and hugely successful career in Crown Green Bowls.
And he’s still doing it!!!!!!
As for his final opponent, Jack Hill, what can we say? Massive commiserations. Such a huge talent and he currently holds the record for the fastest qualification in KC64 history! Your time will come.
It has been a privilege to have so many great players compete in this competition over the last ten years and seeing Bob add his name to the winners list feels a fitting way to mark the tenth year.
A massive thank you to Garry Senior, who once again did an outstanding job with the green.
Greenkeeping is probably one of the most overlooked jobs in our game. It takes countless hours of work behind the scenes and is absolutely critical to producing a surface worthy of competitions like this. Garry, thank you not just for this year, but for all the years you have looked after the green and also for all the work done over the years alongside the much-missed Tony Butterfield.
A very, very special mention also has to go to Dave Fox.
Behind the scenes, Dave does whatever it takes to make this competition happen. A bit like Superman really, running Fox Engravers with his family by day and becoming Mr Kirkheaton Con by night! Whatever you throw at Dave, he finds a way to make it happen. No grumbling, no fuss and never looking for any credit.
And congratulations once again to our 2026 champion… SIR BOB HITCHEN
