Springwood promotion hopes dashed

Updated: Feb 1, 2022

Winter League

A review of the matches played at Springwood on Wednesday 26 January 2022

Any lingering hopes that the Springwood 'A' side had of a promotion push were dispelled this week when going down to a surprise defeat to Jackson Bridge. Three close game results kept things interesting until the very last end with the Bridge running out 6-2 winners with a close 60-58 aggregate advantage.

With Meltham and Lindley Lib both having big wins they have now opened up a 13 point lead although both have played a match more than Springwood. Both the top two dropped points though in 6-2 wins and if results go their way then Meltham could clinch the title as early as next week. Neither of the top two had things all their own way with the Denby Dale captain Neale Wallace having a great 21-20 win to stop Meltham's drive to a whitewash win. Paddock I&C were far from disgraced when going down 2-6 to a Lindley Lib side that has only been beaten by Meltham all season.

In the preview we highlighted the need for Almondbury BC to get a big win against near rivals the Recreation Club help them move away from that drop zone. Well they delivered on that in the best possible way with an 8-0 win to extend their lead over their rivals from 2 to 10 points and surely ease any threat of further relegation threats in the process.
