Winter League
The Division 1 and 2 fixtures scheduled for today at Milnsbridge and Springwood are all postponed due to the adverse weather conditions. News about the Thursday fixture programme at Netherton Con will be passed on as soon as a decision is taken.
When considering if matches should go ahead or not, a number of factors have to be taken into account:
is the green safe for bowlers to play on?
are the surrounds safe for people to walk around (Springwood have to be particularly mindful of this)?
will bowling on the green cause any long-lasting damage to the green?
can all the teams travel safely to the host greens bearing in mind that many travel from snow 'coldspots' such as Meltham, Jackson Bridge, Clayton West and Denby Dale?
We have been very fortunate over the last 3 years with the mild winters helping to minimise the number of postponed matches. With a gap between the ending of the Winter League season and the start of the summer playing season there is a cushion of dates available for use in catching up with postponed matches so reducing the pressure to play if there is any doubt about doing so.
It is hoped to rearrange all the fixtures over the next week but teams will be contacted by the host greens to finalise arrangements.
