Springwood Derby Day

Winter League

A preview of the fixtures scheduled for Divisions 6 & 7 on Thursday 22 January

It is the Springwood Derby match this week in Division 6 which could have an impact on the running order at both ends of the table. The Springwood C team are in danger of a third consecutive 3rd-place finish in Division 6 to miss out on automatic promotion once again. The Springwood B team has a less impressive record having finished in a relegation place for all four years that they have been in the League and in danger of extending that unenviable sequence to five years.

The two teams holding on to the promotion places are Cowcliffe B and Brockholes B with the Cowcliffe team looking for a second consecutive promotion. The top two teams play the bottom two teams which may present an opening for the Springwood B team to hang on to their Division 6 status but that is dependent on them taking some points off their clubmates from Springwood C.

The top two teams in Division 7 play the bottom two teams this Thursday with plenty at stake for all four teams. The leaders, Huddersfield RUFC, would almost be assured of promotion if they can manage an 8-0 win over New Mill C. Whether they accept that promotion or not is another matter. Broad Oak A are already relegated so a match with 2nd placed Kirkheaton Con B can do no more damage than has already been inflicted upon them. Although it would be a welcome for them to clock up their first win of the season.

It will need a strange combination of results to extend New Mill C's Division 6 existence any further especially if Lockwood Con B can take some points off Holmfirth A. Marsh Lib will be looking for a big win over Huddersfield Recreation Club B to retain their interest in the promotion race for another week.
