Runners-up spot is now main Division 1 focus

Winter League

A preview of the Winter League Division 1 fixtures to be played on Wednesday 12 January

Lindley BC 'A' were the first team to take any points off Lower Hopton this season and remain the opponents to have pushed them the hardest on the aggregate front (59-55) so will relish the opportunity to improve on that when the two teams meet this Wednesday at Milnsbridge BC. Although now in 3rd place and 21 points behind the leaders they still remain very much in the mix in the race for the runners-up spot which now looks like a 4-horse race.

Those 4 contenders keep apart from each other this week and Kirkheaton Con, Clayton West and New Millers will all hope to take advantage of the Lindley team's difficult encounter with the leaders and they meet the three teams in the bottom three positions so all will be looking for big wins. All three recorded 8-0 wins when they met the same opponents earlier in the season but things change and the relegation threat has become a reality for Milnsbridge 'A' and Lowerhouses 'A' and both are desperate to retain their top-level status. With just 2 points between them in the table there is much to be resolved and both will be keen to gain some points in advance of their meeting of each other the following week.

Milnsbridge 'A' take on 2nd placed Kirkheaton Con whilst Lowerhouses 'A' have to face Clayton West. The Milnsbridge team will have been heartened by their fighting performance against Clayton West last week in drawing 4-4 but disappointed in losing both singles games 20-21 and will be seeking to make amends on that front this week. Lowerhouses 'A' have won only one of their last six league matches so are hardly in the best form of their season but they should never be underestimated as they have taken points off every team this season bar one and that wasn't the leaders.

Rastrick 'A' will have been encouraged by taking points off Lower Hopton last week and surely they are too good a team to go all season without a win but time and games are running out to achieve that goal. This week they meet the New Millers who inflicted a whitewash defeat on them earlier in the season but that counts for nothing when the first game gets on the green this Wednesday.

All the action takes place at Milnsbridge BC from 12noon with spectators very welcome with hot drinks, refreshments and raffle tickets available to all. The forecast is for a dry day with cloud so time for some fresh air and exercise walking around the green and a good natter with like-minded individuals.
