Winter League
Review of The Division 7 matches played on Thursday 31 October at the Rugby Club
The League has introduced a new 'decline promotion' rule option for teams of a host club. This allows host club teams to decline promotion at the end of a season. This is all about supporting host clubs to retain and make available their bowlers on hosting days. There is a penalty for teams taking this option in that for the following season every game played would start with the host club team having a minus 2 handicap for each singles and each pairs games played right through the following season.
Huddersfield RUFC could be the first team to call for this option as they remain at the top of the Division 7 table with 4 wins from 4 matches. They would likely call for this option as promotion would take some of their catering and admin teams into Division 6 at Netherton Con. The Netherton matches are also played on a Thursday so depriving these bowlers of their matchday services and unavailable to perform their hosting duties. An 8-0 win over Marsh Lib ensured that the host team remain in first place with Cowcliffe B tucked in two points behind them also with an unbeaten record. An 8-0 win over Broad Oak A ensured that they stay well in contention.
Hanging Heaton B look to be the only current threat to the top two after another 8-0 result on the day as they overwhelmed Lockwood Con B. There was a 4-4 draw when Kirkheaton Con B played Meltham B which ensured a 10-points gap above the relegation places for them with Broad Oak A and Lockwood Con B firmly entrenched in those positions.
