Bowling News
We have never done much poetry on the website, in fact this is a first, but in a reflective moment (doing a lot of that during the latest lockdown) decided to add this piece as relevant and a reminder of what we are missing.
FRIENDLY RIVALS
I may not always win my game Or shine upon the green But bowling’s made for friendship That’s how it’s always been
I’m happy if I win a match Still happy if I lose If only I am playing Amongst the friends I choose
Give me a summer evening When work is left behind When the sun is in the poplars The breeze is soft and kind
I wouldn’t swop my pleasure With princes or with kings Nor could they be knowing The friendship bowling brings
Is that from the next poet laureate? We have the current one in our midst who I believe has graced our bowling greens.
