Over-80's & JFT Finals Day this Thursday

Veterans League

We are down to the last four contenders for the 2026 Over-80's KO following Friday's Quarter-Finals Round played at Marsh Liberal Club. That quartet includes two former winners of the title with 92-year-old Frank Greenwood on the green for an hour on a hot day before edging it against Meltham bowler Alan Starkey 21-19. Frank is aiming for a fourth title win but will have to get past fellow scratch bowler Roger Lunn who will be playing on his home green. Roger did a proper job on Rastrick opponent Roger Stopford when coming home 21-7.

Gordon Walker is the other previous winner after being a three-times runner-up before finally lifting the title in 2024. He recovered from a shaky start of going 1-8 down to Thongsbridge bowler John Yalden before recovering to run out a 21-12 winner. The all-Netherton Con quarter-final saw Dennis Garner overcome his clubmate, Paul Winterburn, by 21-11 to claim his place in the semis when he will meet Gordon Walker. All four scorecards are below.

Finals Day in Thursday 16 July and will be played alongside the Julie Fuller Trophy Final. This is a traditional format with the two Over-80's Semi-Finals being played first, followed by all three pairs in the Julie Fuller Trophy. That is followed by the Over-80s Final when the weather will either be very hot or pouring down with rain as is the tradition. One of the best days of the Veterans League calendar.

Over-80's KO Semi-Finals Roger Lunn (Waterloo) (Sc.) v Frank Greenwood (Golcar Lib) (Sc.) Dennis Garner (Netherton Con) (+1) v Gordon Walker (Kirkheaton Con) (+1)

JULIE FULLER TROPHY FINALS DAY

Lindley Lib A (+3) v Clayton West (Scratch)

The Julie Fuller Trophy Final is a 3-Pairs competition, all on the green at the same time. The Final is between two Division 1 teams with Lindley Lib A having a +3 handicap start over the table toppers, Clayton West. The aggregate scores will determine the winner and the game count only comes into play should the aggregate scores be level.
