Over-70's Finals Day a day of 2 halves

Veterans League

It is Finals Day this Thursday in the Veterans League Over-70's Knock-Out competition. There is bound to be a new name on the trophy as none of the last eight have won the title before.

It is an intriguing draw with four Division 1 bowlers in the bottom half of the draw whilst in the top half there isn't a single Division 1 name. Top rated in those four is Keith Hilton of Brockholes A team who has won all his five Division 3 matches this season. He takes on David Peacock from Division 4 side Milnsbridge B who hasn't won all his league matches to date. Keith already has already beaten two Division 1 bowlers to reach this stage in eliminating Peter Kain (Lockwood Con 21-17) and Roger Stopford (Rastrick 21-11).

Two Division 6 bowlers contest the other quarter-final so I am unsure why they have different handicaps. Dennis Lomax of New Mill B and Mick Wenzel of David Brown Sports go head-to-head for a place in the semis

The bottom half of the draw sees the two Clayton West bowlers meeting. They are also teammates in the Inter-District away team and they were partners in the League's pairs competition earlier this season.

The winner of that coming-together will play the winner of the Mick Cox v Paul Rangeley tie in the semi-fials. With Finals Day being played at Lockwood Con this makes Mick Cox a home bowler so he adds a 2-point handicap penalty to his already scratch rating and has to give his opponent a four-points start.
